Maslenitsa: Russian Pancakes & Songs

February 17, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
TMORA Education Center, 5904 Pleasant Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55419
$35 – $40

Celebrate Maslenitsa, Russia’s festive “Butter Week,” with an evening of pancakes, music, and community at the TMORA Education Center.

Enjoy authentic Russian pancakes (blini) with classic accompaniments like crème fraîche, jams, herring, caviar, and tea, along with a selection of traditional sweets, all while sitting amidst the beautiful gallery space of the TMORA Education Center.

The evening features a live program of songs performed by Nitka, TMORA’s folk performance group. Drawing on ancient seasonal traditions and women’s communal culture, Nitka will perform songs once sung during Butter Week to mark the turning of the seasons and the communal farewell to winter. These songs are part of a living, intangible cultural heritage passed down through generations. The word nitka means “thread” in Russian. Like a thread binding cloth together, Nitka’s performances weave past and present, history, place, and shared experience into Minnesota’s contemporary cultural fabric.
