Craft Workshop: Ancient Slavic Rag Dolls for Protection and Luck

June 20, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
TMORA Education Center , 5904 Pleasant Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55419
$20-25

As the Solstice approaches, now is the perfect time to invoke some good luck. Join us for a hands-on workshop where we will create traditional Slavic rag dolls: powerful symbols of protection, prosperity, and family well‑being. These dolls have been passed down through generations, each carrying deep cultural meaning and crafted without needles to preserve their spiritual integrity. This special class is led by Lana Kartak, a multi‑award winner at the Minnesota State Fair known both for her exceptional craftsmanship and artistry and the warm workshop environment she facilitates. Whether you’re drawn to folk traditions, enjoy crafting, or simply want a meaningful group experience, this class will leave you inspired.

During our time together, you will:

  • Learn the history and symbolism behind ancient Slavic rag dolls,
  • Create your own meaningful doll using natural materials,
  • Enjoy a peaceful, creative atmosphere,
  • Take home a handmade talisman filled with intention.

All materials are provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own fabric if you wish. Ages 12 and up are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Cost is $20 for TMORA members; $25 for non-members.

About the instructor: Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, Svetlana (Lana) Kartak has spent a lifetime mastering traditional crafts.
