In the roaring 20s, Soviet sports parades projected the image of a renovated humanity. The suntanned, muscular athletes marched in unison, their powerful hands holding red flags. Mass celebrations became central in the social life of Soviet citizens. The organization of such events was an art form in itself. On Labor Day and Revolution Day, huge crowds of people carrying red flags and slogans walked through the streets of Soviet cities, demonstrating their loyalty and willingness to participate in the events organized by the state.
